Green School Platinum Award
Guwahati, August 20: Portraying their commitment towards Green, NPS International School, Guwahati has been bestowed upon the coveted Green School Platinum Award 2016 by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), at IIT Guwahati on Friday (August 10, 2016) night.
Distributing the award, Prof Gautam Biswas, Director, IITGuwahati lauded the effort of the students of NPS International School in making the entire campus of the school Green. Stressing on the need of a holistic effort in conservation of energy and nature, Prof Biswas also urged the IIT students to concentrate more on research related issues for a better tomorrow. He also appreciated the efforts and research works being carried out in this regard in places like Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia etc.
Participating in the programme, which was also attended by some of the leading engineers and scholars in Green movement in the country, Dr PK Sharma elaborated on the various issues relating to Indian Green Building Council.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001. The vision of the council is, "To enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025".
The council offers a wide array of services which include developing new green building rating programmes, certification services and green building training programmes. The council also organises Green Building Congress, its annual flagship event on green buildings.
Mr JN Das, founder and chairman of the school has also congratulated the each and one involved with the Green Project in the school.
In her presentation soon after receiving the award, Mrs Probhati Biswas, principal of the school, elaborated on the roles played by the students of the school in making the entire school building and its environment green.
The Engineering students attended the meeting, organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of IIT Guwahati, also appreciated the effort of NPS Students.
Earlier in the meeting, Mr Sourav Chakraborty of IGBC welcomed the gathering and spoke on the various aims and objectives of IGBC.
It may be mentioned here that the Students Chapter of IGBC was also opened in IIT Guwahati during the meeting.
