NPS Soccer Team to Represent India in Malaysia
Guwahati, August 26: NPs International School, Guwahati has made the entire North-east proud again as the team has been qualified to represent the country in the forthcoming International Youth Sports Championship, 2016-17 to be held in Malaysia in December this year. NPS becomes the runners’-up in the 2nd National Youth Sports Championship -2016-17 that concluded on August 24 in Bangalore.
Apart from NPS International School, teams from various parts of the country, including Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chennai, Kerala, Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and the host city Bangalore took part in the event.
NPs International School, Guwahati which became the only representative from the North-east to play in the 2nd National Youth Sports Championship -2016-17, recognized by International School Sports Federation of India and All India Sports Federation for Catholic Schools, held in Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. After registering their three straight victories, the NE team entered into the final of the national-level tournament. In the semi-final, the school defeated Cygnus International School, Ambala by a margin of 3-0 goals.
However, in the final match against Bhavan Vidyaniketan School, Chennai, the Guwahati-based school failed to keep their momentum and conceded the lone goal in the dying minutes of the match.
Saurav Kumar Roy of NPS International School won the Best Player Trophy while Henry Ikem of the school also won the Best Coach of the Tournament.
