NPS tops in CBSE Schools Film Making Competition 2015
NPS International School, Guwahati has made the entire Northeast proud again and this time the school secured first position in the national-level film-making competition, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), results of which was declared in national capital New Delhi on July 20 evening.
While showcasing the marvels of the North-east, NPS students beautifully elaborated on the bamboo crafts available in Assam through their film, Assam Bamboo Craft. Nikita Basumatary, a Class XII Commerce stream student, directed the film. Her camera work also got appreciation during the competition. Aakangkasha Das wrote the script of the film while film while the editing part was commendably done by Parishma Saikia, a Class XII Commerce stream student.
For winning the competition, the NPS team will get a trophy, certificate and a cash award of Rs 10,000.
Recently, the CBSE had announced the film-making competition on the theme “Mavels of North-East India”. All CBSE schools across the country were invited to participate in it. Out of 290 entries received, 30 most mesmerising entries were shortlisted.
On Monday morning in New Delhi, the selected movies where screened one after the other and panel discussions were followed where students involved with the films had to face volleys of questions from a panel of judges. The panel of judges wereMr Barthav Bora, a prominent journalist and cartoonist and Mr Sandeep Seith, Education Officer, CBSE.
“We made the short documentary on the Assam bamboo craft and named it as ‘Assam Bamboo Craft’ and was sent to the competition. On July, we received information from CBSE that our movie was selected as one of the top 30 movies from all over India and the documentary will be screened on July 20 in New Delhi followed by the students responsible for the movie must participate in a discussion with the panel and then the results will be announced,” said JN Das, director, NPS International School, Guwahati.
The same documentary was also sent to the 5th Dada Sahib Phalke Film Festival 2015 in New Delhi and the school won awards in two categories -- best documentary and best cinematography.
“Then the movie was sent to 4th Bangalore Short International Film Festival 2015 and we again won best film award. Then the movie was sent to Indian Cine Film Festival 2015 and Kolkata international film festival 2015. In Kolkata film festival the movie has been officially shortlisted for the final round in the students category,” a jubilant Das added.
CBSE Schools Film Making Competition 2015 is a short film making competition and is organised in order to generate awareness among students regarding the culture and traditions of people residing in the north eastern regions in the country.
Commenting on the film-making competition, Das said “This competition will help the students form an understanding of the lives and cultures of the people living in the north eastern regions of the country and will work towards stimulation of the student’s Compassion, Creativity and Critical Thinking.”
The competition 2015 was open for students who are studying in schools affiliated under CBSE and the students were required to prepare a film of maximum five minutes on any of the given topics.
