NPS International School, Guwahati is presenting its first chapter of the national-level NPS Model United Nations (NPSMUN) in school auditorium from May 26-28. Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Some of the front-ranking schools of the country especially from places like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad have already confirmed their participation in the three-day-long event. The participating students will speak on the topic of the event, “Building a Stronger Tomorrow”, for which five core committees, namely United Nations Security Council (UNSC), World Health Organisation (WHO), European Clubs Association (ECA), International Press Corps (IPC) and Lok Sabha will be formed as part of the event. Speakers of national and international repute are also likely to take part in the programme. Interested students can visit Facebook Page, “NPS Model United Nations”, for this purpose. For more details, aspiring students can also write to email@example.com. Participants in Model UN conferences, known as delegates, are placed in committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organisations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that their committee will discuss. Delegates conduct research before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. At the end of a conference, the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are recognized with awards.
